PM Modi: India to be among top 3 economies in my 3rd term

PM Modi: India to be among top 3 economies in my 3rd term. Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on Sunday that India will be among the top three economies in the world in his third term. The PM said this after inaugurating the Surat Diamond Bourse (SDB), which, according to him, is “the symbol of strength and determination of new India”.

The PM said that a lot was being talked about “Modi’s guarantee” these days. “People of Surat have known about Modi’s guarantees for long. The hardworking people of Surat have seen Modi’s guarantees turn into reality. And Surat Diamond Bourse, is an example,” he said.

SDB will be a global centre for trading in both rough and polished diamonds, as well as jewellery. It shows the capabilities of Indian design, designers, material and concept, the PM said. “This (SDB) building is the symbol of new strength and determination of new India,” he added.

India has already become the fifth largest economic power in the world from 10th position in the last 10 years, he said. “Now, I guarantee that in my third term, India will be among the world’s top three economies,” Modi said.

The government has also planned for the next 25 years. “We are working on becoming a $5-10 trillion economy as well as taking exports to a record high,” he added.

With its nine towers having 67,28,604sqft area, the SDB complex located in Khajod village near Surat city, is larger than the Pentagon in the US. It is spread over 35 acres of land and developed at a cost of around Rs 3,400 crore.

On the way to the SDB from Surat airport, Modi was greeted by thousands of supporters, who had gathered on both sides of the road. Addressing a gathering, Modi said the Surat diamond industry was providing work to eight lakh people, and with the addition of SDB, another 1.5 lakh jobs will be created.

“Another diamond has been added to the grandeur of the city. It is not a small one, but it is the best in the world. Even the biggest buildings in the world pale before this diamond (SDB). Whenever one talks about this diamond bourse in the world, Surat and India will be mentioned,” said Modi.

“India leads in the export of diamonds, including silver cut and laboratory-grown diamonds, but the country’s contribution in world exports of gems and jewelry is just 3.5%. If Surat decides, then this figure could be in double digits in gems and jewelry exports,” the PM said, assuring that his government would stand with the efforts made by the gems and jewelry industry.

He said that the Centre has already selected the sector as a focus area for export promotion by encouraging patented design, diversification of export products, search for better technology in collaboration with other countries and encouraging lab-grown and green diamonds.

“Made in India has become a global brand. Your business and the jewelry sector will benefit from this. So, I urge you to take a pledge and fulfill it,” he added.
